Styan's Red Panda



Family: Ailuridae in the Order Carnivora
Description : They have reddish-brown fur, white faces masked with darker fur near the eyes, some white on the ears, and long tails with clear or faint rings.
Habitat : Forests and Shrubland
Behavior : They are excellent climbers and spend most of the time on trees. They eat bamboo leaves, small mammals, insects and fruits.

Characteristics of the Red Panda



Tail :
weight : 4 to 7 kg.
Their long fur makes them look large and plump.
Canines : Small
Molars :
Nail : They have long, sharp claws that help them climb tress with agility.
Wrist : Covered with hair and hard to slip.
Heels : They walk using heel-to-toe steps, much like humans.
They can also stand up on their hind legs.

Red Pandas and GSMPs


Global Species Management Plans (GSMPs)
Zoos and aquariums around the world work together, following international GSMPs, in order to save endangered species and provide management of the offspring of wildlife species that are at risk of extinction.
The Red Panda was placed under the protection of a GSMP in 2012. Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Garden began to participate in the Red Panda GSMP in 2020.
The following animals and birds are identified as endangered species, to be protected under GSMPs(2016).
